A 73-year-old senior citizen was killed and a sidewalk vendor was injured early Wednesday, May 20, 2026, when a pickup truck plowed into a crowd waiting in line for the government's subsidized PHP20-per-kilo rice program in Quezon City. The incident happened around 3:45 a.m. along Visayas Avenue in Barangay Vasra, outside the Department of Agriculture–Bureau of Animal Industry (DA-BAI) office. Dalawa ang nasawi habang nakapila para sa ayuda sa magkahiwalay na insidente sa Quezon City, kabilang ang isang senior citizen na naghihintay makabili ng murang bigas.
Bandang alas-tres ng madaling araw nang pumila ang 63-anyos na lolo sa harap ng Bureau of Animal Industry sa Visayas Avenue para makabili ng bigas na nagkakahalaga ng P20 kada kilo sa Kadiwa Center. Habang naghihintay ng pagbubukas ng establisimyento, nasagasaan siya ng isang pick-up na umano’y nawalan ng kontrol. Agad siyang nasawi sa insidente.
Nasa kustodiya na ng Quezon City Police District (QCPD) ang driver ng pick-up habang nagpapatuloy ang imbestigasyon.
Samantala, dead on arrival sa ospital ang isang 55-anyos na babae matapos bigla umanong mawalan ng malay at bumagsak habang nakapila para sa cash assistance ng DSWD sa Quezon City Hall. Tumama ang kanyang noo sa sementong sahig nang siya ay matumba.
Batay sa medical record ng biktima, naospital na rin siya noong 2021 dahil sa hypertension at paglaki ng puso.
