Tree stumps are all that remain of the shaded tree canopy along Quirino Avenue in Malate, Manila, on 18 May 2026. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-National Capital Region (DENR-NCR) issued tree-cutting and earth-balling permits for sections of the avenue in connection with San Miguel Corporation’s (SMC) Southern Access Link Expressway and related Skyway projects.
