Duterte shifts to EV fleet

Jon Develos

Davao City — The local government of Davao City has begun its transition toward a more sustainable transportation system with the initial procurement of electric vehicles for its official fleet.

Harvey Lanticse, acting head of the City Information Office, said in a statement that Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte issued a directive in 2025 to begin planning the acquisition of electric vehicles (EVs).

The move is intended to align the local government with Section 6 of Republic Act 11697, also known as the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act. The law mandates that at least 5 percent of the fleets of both government and private organizations consist of electric vehicles.
