This March, QCinema will hold a special screening series at Gateway Cineplex 18, featuring stories that explore history, resistance, memory, and identity. The series forms part of QCinema’s initiatives as a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network and a designated Creative City of Film.

Sisa

The lineup opens on 4 March at 6:00 p.m. with a by-invitation screening of Sisa, a 2025 historical thriller written, co-produced, and directed by Jun Robles Lana. Set during the final years of the Philippine-American War, the film follows a woman driven to madness after witnessing a massacre.

Hilda Koronel leads the film in her first movie in 13 years, alongside Eugene Domingo, Jennica Garcia, Tanya Gomez, Barbara Miguel, and Romnick Sarmenta. Sisa had its world premiere at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia, where it competed in the Official Selection section. Its Philippine theatrical release is scheduled for 4 March.

The First Women

On 11 March at 4:00 p.m., QCinema will present The First Women, a free documentary screening directed by Adriana Yañez. Sponsored by the Embassy of Brazil in Manila in partnership with Instituto Guimarães Rosa, the film follows women now in their 60s who once formed Brazil’s first women’s soccer team.

The Little Sister (La Petite Dernière)

The series concludes on 11 March at 7:00 p.m. with The Little Sister (La Petite Dernière), written and directed by Hafsia Herzi. Adapted from Fatima Daas’s novel The Last One, the coming-of-age drama centers on Fatima, a young lesbian woman of Algerian descent in Paris navigating faith, family expectations, and her identity. The film premiered in competition at the Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Queer Palm and the Best Actress prize. Tickets are priced at P200.

All screenings will be held at Gateway Cineplex 18 in Quezon City.
