The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) provided immediate medical attention to a sick fisherman while patrolling Bajo de Masinloc on Friday.
According to the PCG, the fisherman was weak and experiencing dizziness while on a fishing expedition.
The BRP Cabra (MRRV-4409) received a distress call from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), prompting PCG personnel to immediately respond to the area and provide first aid to the fisherman.
After undergoing medical assessment, the fisherman's condition improved, and he was allowed to rest on the PCG boat.
The PCG vessel is part of the fleet that conducts re-provisioning activities along with BFAR in the area.
The PCG and BFAR conduct regular joint re-provisioning and humanitarian missions to support Filipino fishermen in the West Philippine Sea (WPS), particularly around Bajo de Masinloc (Scarborough Shoal) and Escoda Shoal.
The missions aim to provide fuel subsidies and grocery items to Filipino fishermen, as well as to maintain a maritime presence in the Philippines' Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
