Deputy Speaker Paolo Ortega V, Deputy Jefferson Khonghun, and Congressman Zia Alonto Adiong on Sunday extended their congratulations to Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Spokesperson for West Philippine Sea matters, Jay Tarriela, on his recent promotion from Commodore to Rear Admiral.

The prestigious promotion was announced through an appointment letter dated 23 February 2026, signed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

The so-called House Young Guns recognized Rear Admiral Tarriela's exemplary service, unwavering dedication, and bold leadership as the PCG Spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea and a key figure in the National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea.

To recall, Tarriela has been at the forefront of the Philippines' transparency campaign in the West Philippine Sea, consistently briefing the public and media on maritime incidents, defending national sovereignty, and exposing illegal activities in the country’s exclusive economic zone.

His steadfast commitment to truth, accountability, and the defense of Philippine rights has made him a symbol of courage and resolve amid ongoing regional challenges.

"We salute Rear Admiral Jay Tarriela for his fearless advocacy and tireless service in defending our West Philippine Sea," the House Young Guns said in a collective statement. "In an era where transparency and firmness are essential to protecting our sovereignty, his voice has been instrumental in rallying national and international support for our just cause. This promotion is richly deserved and reflects the high regard of the President and the nation for his integrity and patriotism."

The House Young Guns looks forward to continued collaboration with Rear Admiral Tarriela and the entire Philippine Coast Guard in pursuing a secure, prosperous, and sovereign Philippines.
