Two decades after Hannah Montana first premiered on Disney Channel, Miley Cyrus is revisiting the role that launched her into global stardom in the upcoming Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, streaming 24 March on Disney+.
Filmed before a live studio audience, the event will feature a candid, sit-down conversation between Cyrus and host Alex Cooper. The special promises a heartfelt deep dive into the origins of one of television’s most beloved teen characters and the cultural wave it created. Cyrus will reflect on the music, milestones, and memories that defined an era, blending nostalgia with present-day insight.
Audiences can expect rare archival clips and recreated set pieces, including the Stewart family living room and the instantly recognizable Hannah Montana closet. A few familiar musical moments are also set to make a return, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
A certified pop culture phenomenon, “Hannah Montana” reshaped youth programming, influenced style and sound, and introduced a generation to a new kind of pop icon. The Emmy nominated series generated 14 platinum and 18 gold albums worldwide, along with two feature-length films, cementing its place in entertainment history.
Cyrus shared that the character remains a meaningful part of her journey, describing the anniversary as a tribute to the fans who have supported her for 20 years. She expressed pride in the show’s lasting resonance and gratitude for the connection it continues to foster.
Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, said the series inspired viewers to dream boldly and embrace every side of themselves. Reuniting with Cyrus for the milestone special, Davis added, is meant to serve as a heartfelt thank-you to loyal fans across generations.
The anniversary event is produced by HopeTown Entertainment and Unwell Productions. Ashley Edens leads as showrunner, with executive producers Cyrus, Tish Cyrus-Purcell, Cooper and Matt Kaplan. Cooper will also steer the evening as host.
Ahead of the premiere, fans can revisit classic episodes and performances through the Hannah Montana collection on Disney+, where the franchise has already surpassed half a billion streaming hours worldwide — proof that the legacy still shines bright.
