The third-iteration of the large-scale Combined Arms Training Exercise (CATEX) “Katihan” 2026 commencedat the Paredes Air Station, Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, the Philippine Army said Wednesday.
CATEX “Katihan” includes Displaced Civilian Operations, Littoral Defense, Mobile Defense/Retrograde Operations and Area Defense. The large-scale exercise also paves way for the Army’s participation in Salaknib-Balikatan (SABAK) Exercises and the Joint Pacific Multinational Readiness Center-Exportable (JPMRC-X) Exercise with the U.S. Army Pacific in April and May 2026.CATEX Katihan also operationalizes the Army’s Land Defense Concept and its role in the Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Operations.
It effectively tests the Army’s Combined Arms Brigade's capability to rapidly project and deploy forces in combat operations.
In his keynote remarks, 503rd Infantry Brigade Commander Brig. Gen. Rhenante M. Salvador highlighted the Army’s commitment to integrated operations.
He likewise assured the public that the training exercise will be conducted in controlled areas to ensure safety and security of the training audience and the community.
