University of Santo Tomas (UST) welcomed Anna Ferry, Ambassador of Sweden to the Philippines, for exploratory talks on strengthening collaboration in science, technology, health and sustainability.
Ferry visited the España campus on 21 January, accompanied by officials from the Embassy of Sweden in Manila, to discuss potential partnerships that could expand academic exchanges and joint initiatives between Swedish institutions and one of Asia’s oldest universities.
The Swedish envoy paid a courtesy call on UST Rector Very Rev. Fr. Richard Ang, O.P., Ph.D., and met with key university officials, including Vice Rector for Research and Innovation Rev. Fr. Jannel Abogado, O.P., DTPS, and Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Cheryl Peralta, DrPH.
Discussions centered on possible cooperation in research and innovation, public health, sustainability initiatives, and cultural exchange programs — areas where Sweden has maintained a strong global profile and where UST continues to expand its academic footprint.
During the visit, Ferry was presented with a miniature of the Arch of the Centuries, a National Cultural Treasure located within the UST campus, symbolizing the university’s rich heritage and longstanding academic tradition.
The ambassador also toured the UST Museum and the Antonio Vivencio del Rosario UST Heritage Library, where rare items from the university’s collection were presented to the delegation.
