Chinese New Year in Cebu is a vibrant celebration of tradition, unity and renewed hope.

This year, two of the islands’ premier destinations, Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino and Shangri La Mactan, Cebu marked the occasion with distinctive festivities that blended cultural heritage with refined elegance.

At Waterfront Cebu Hotel and Casino, the celebration unfolded in a warm and dignified atmosphere that emphasized togetherness and prosperity. The grand lobby was transformed into a festive space adorned with traditional décor in auspicious shades of red and highlighted by a larger-than-life gold horse installation that immediately captured guests’ attention.

The striking centerpiece symbolized strength, vitality and the forward momentum of the year ahead, while elegant lanterns, floral arrangements and intricate ornaments completed the vibrant setting. Families, business leaders and members of the Filipino Chinese community gathered in this beautifully curated space to usher in good fortune.

The evening was further elevated by the presence of distinguished guests of honor, including Japanese Consul General Yudai Ueno, civic leader Dr. Vivina Chiu, US Consular Agent Glenn Loop and Mandaue Chamber of Commerce president Mark Anthony Ynoc. Their attendance underscored the strong cultural and economic ties between communities and added depth and significance to the celebration.

The pinnacle of the evening was the spectacular fireworks display that illuminated the Cebu skyline. Brilliant bursts of red and gold shimmered across the night sky, leaving spectators in awe and drawing resounding applause. The display symbolized renewal and prosperity, marking the beginning of a promising year ahead.

Meanwhile Shangri-la Mactan, offered a resort style celebration where guests indulged in lavish reunion feasts that combined traditional Chinese favorites with international selections. Cultural touches included traditional dishes, “Yee Sang” prosperity tosses and lively performances that highlighted optimism for the year ahead.
