Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board Chairperson Vigor Mendoza II announced on Sunday the dismissal of an agency driver seen in a viral video counterflowing while using an official LTFRB service vehicle.
Mendoza said the termination was part of efforts to instill discipline and professionalism among agency personnel, particularly in cases involving abuse of authority.
The driver, a contractual employee, was removed from service following an investigation ordered by Mendoza after he saw the video circulating online over the weekend.
“There was a clear violation of the road safety rules and regulations based on the video. We are now looking into it and we assure the public of our immediate action in relation to this incident,” he said.
Mendoza stressed that any violation of road safety rules will not be tolerated within the agency.
“We do not condone and tolerate this kind of behavior that does not only show abuse of authority but also compromise the safety of all road users,” Mendoza said.
“As public servants, we should be at the frontline of strictly following the law and other rules and regulations. Any attempt to use the authority that we have will certainly affect the perception of the people to their government, and I will not allow that,” he added.
Mendoza said the incident should serve as a lesson to all LTFRB personnel to observe the law and act as role models on the road.
He also urged the public to continue reporting LTFRB personnel involved in road safety violations and other forms of abuse of authority.
