The Quezon City Police District, together with Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, carried out Project Hilamos in Barangay Sikatuna and Barangay Teachers Village East on Saturday.

Barangay officials from both barangays also participated in the initiative, which involved repainting walls defaced with often graphic and explicit caricatures.

In a statement posted on Belmonte’s social media account, she said the walls would be painted with artwork once properly cleaned and repainted.

The QC mayor also reminded the public that any form of vandalism is strictly prohibited under city ordinances and that anyone found committing such acts will face penalties.

Based on Sangguniang Panglungsod Ordinance 3163 of the Quezon City Council, first offenders will be fined P1,000, P2,000 for a second offense, and P3,000 for a third offense.

Aside from the fines, the ordinance also states that offenders will be held liable for the expenses needed to restore the wall or surface.
