College of Saint Benilde’s think tank had a major boost after De La Salle University head coach Topex Robinson joined the school as a consultant.

The Blazers made the announcement Friday with Gilbert Lao joining as a strength and conditioning coach.

Head Coach Charles Tiu told DAILY TRIBUNE that he is thrilled to work with the two-time University Athletic Association of the Philippines champion mentor since joining forces with Strong Group Athletics in the 2024 Dubai International Basketball Championships.

“Excited to work with the two. I’ve worked with Coach Topex in the past and we have a great relationship (with him). We want to try to build our one La Salle vision, so I think it’s a great fit. He is someone I respect and whose opinion I really value.”

“Coach Gilbert has great experience working with many different teams, and I wanted another veteran coach with the departure of some of our coaches.”

The Blazers are coming off a semifinal finish in Season 101 of the National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s basketball tournament after losing to eventual champion San Beda University in their best-of-three championship series.

Reigning Most Valuable Player Allen Liwag will be at the forefront of Saint Benilde’s crusade to end a 26-year title drought.
