Three individuals have been convicted in a major drug smuggling case involving nearly P998 million worth of illegal drugs seized at the Bureau of Customs (BOC).
In a statement released Friday, the BOC said Muktasil Abundol Assimudin, Emmanuel Paulo Delos Reyes Landicho and George Sim Fernandez were found guilty beyond reasonable doubt on 9 December 2025 for violating Section 1401(g) in relation to Section 118(g) of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
Each was sentenced to reclusion perpetua and ordered to pay a P50 million fine.
The case stemmed from the seizure of about 146.81 kilograms of illegal drugs valued at P998,306,096, which arrived at the Manila International Container Port in January 2019.
BOC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno said the ruling affirms the agency’s enforcement and legal efforts against large-scale drug smuggling.
“The conviction of those behind this massive drug shipment demonstrates that our enforcement and legal processes are working. We will continue to pursue every case until justice is fully upheld,” Nepomuceno said.
