BALLET Philippines dancers performing ‘Alice in Wonderland.’Unlike the White Rabbit, I am not “late to this very important date.” In fact, I arrived early at The Theatre at Solaire and full of excitement for Ballet Philippines’ performance!
This full-length ballet is part of their 56th Season, showcasing a completely original adaptation by artistic director Mikhail Martynyuk.
It was so fun, starting with the dress code. We had fun dressing up like we’re attending the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party! Complete with the champagne and canapés before the show. But even if my dress was inspired by the The Queen of Hearts’ red roses, I was totally like Alice with my curiosity.
Martynyuk’s choreography transported me into Wonderland with his comedic and inventive approach, incorporating theatrical movements and miming to the ballet. He was able to bring this classic story to life, and the skilled dancers of course were essential in making this a dreamy, dynamic and entertaining experience!
Bravo, Ballet Philippines, and to Mikhail Martynyuk! This was an excellent performance — proving once again how world-class our talents are. This made our night extra special, and we were talking about it through our dinner after. I look forward to your next production. Cheers!Photograph by Agile Zamora for DAILY TRIBUNE
