BAGUIO CITY — Three members of the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU) were killed while two others were injured in a shooting incident Tuesday evening at the Allangigan Patrol Base in Apatan, Pinukpuk, Kalinga.
Police said the suspect, also a CAFGU Active Auxiliary member assigned to the patrol base, allegedly opened fire on his fellow members at around 7:47 p.m. on 17 February 2025.
All five victims were CAFGU personnel.
After the shooting, the suspect fled the scene. Personnel from the Pinukpuk Municipal Police Station launched a pursuit operation and arrested him on 18 February 2026.
The 103rd Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army issued a statement confirming that it is extending assistance to the families of the victims, including financial aid, psychosocial intervention and access to other government support.
“Ang pangyayaring ito ay isang malungkot at hindi inaasahang insidente na nakaapekto hindi lamang sa aming hanay kundi pati sa komunidad na aming pinaglilingkuran. Ang mga biktima ay kapwa Pilipino na may iisang layunin, ang mapanatili ang kapayapaan at seguridad sa kanilang nasasakupan,” the 103rd IBPA said.
Military officials emphasized that the victims were committed to maintaining peace and security in their assigned areas. The battalion said it would continue its mandate to protect the public and ensure order despite the incident.
Police are continuing their investigation.
