Baku, Antalya stints for Yulo

The 2028 Los Angeles Olympics is still two years away but the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) is grooming Karl Eldrew Yulo to be one of the country’s best medal bets.

GAP president Cynthia Carrion said the 18-year-old Yulo will be joining two legs of the World Cup series in March where he will compete in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 5 to 8 March and in Antalya, Turkey, from 12 to 15 March.

Yulo won two bronze medals in the 3rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships last November.

“He’s going to Baku, for a World Cup already and then we’re going to Turkey for another World Cup. We’re going to be joining all the World Cups to qualify for the Olympics,” Carrion said.

“I just hope that Eldrew doesn’t get injured. Without injury, he can really make it.”

Yulo’s older brother, Carlos, proved that joining several World Cup legs is a great way to get used to high-level competitions.

After coming up empty-handed in his debut in the Tokyo Olympics, Carlos continued to hone his craft in the World Cup legs as he constantly battled the likes of Artur Davtyan of Armenia in the men’s vault.
