More than 700 kilos of bangus, or milkfish, were harvested during the Techno Demo Project on Cage Culture of Milkfish at Barangay San Gabriel in the town of Macabebe, Pampanga, on 06 February 2026.

In a statement issued on 16 February 2026, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region 3 (BFAR 3) said the harvesting ceremony was conducted to train members of the San Gabriel Farmers, Fisherfolk, and Vegetable Association.

The Techno Demo Project on Cage Culture of Milkfish produced more than 700 kilos of fish, with each milkfish averaging 305 grams.

The project aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of technology and proper management using cage culture to increase milkfish production and support the livelihood of the local fishing community.

With continuous technical guidance from BFAR, the San Gabriel Farmers, Fisherfolk, and Vegetable Association are expected to strengthen their aquaculture operations and help establish a steady supply of fish in the community.

Pampanga is a key contributor to Central Luzon’s bangus industry, which relies on fishponds and, increasingly, floating cages in rivers to enhance production. Government initiatives also support hatchery and fingerling supplies to improve output.

Central Luzon ranked as the second top producer of bangus in the Philippines in 2022, with a significant portion of that production coming from Pampanga.
