The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) placed its Yaman ng Kalusugan Program (YAKAP) at the center of its National Health Insurance Program (NHIP) Month activities, emphasizing primary care as a key component of accessible and equitable healthcare.

Through YAKAP, members gain access to consultations, selected laboratory services, and essential medicines provided by accredited primary care providers. The program encourages families to register with primary care providers for continuous health monitoring, early detection, and preventive care, aiming to reduce avoidable hospitalizations and improve overall health outcomes.

As of January 2026, PhilHealth reported that 26.75 million Filipinos had been empaneled under the program. There were 40.01 million YAKAP Clinic selections recorded in 2025 and 21.72 million selections in 2026, reflecting increasing engagement of members with their chosen primary care providers.

NHIP Month, observed under Presidential Proclamation No. 1400 s. 2007, highlights PhilHealth’s role in promoting social solidarity, financial risk protection, and primary care strengthening.

PhilHealth marks its 31st anniversary on 14 February 2026, coinciding with the nationwide observance of NHIP Month. The agency’s theme for this year is “Ka-YAKAP ang Pilipino sa Kalusugang Segurado.” Under recent health reforms and the Universal Health Care Law, PhilHealth’s role has expanded from financing hospital-based services to acting as a strategic purchaser of health services across the continuum of care.
