Heartbroken people also mark Valentine’s Day with hopes for a new love — or sweet revenge for exes who had hurt them.
The Bronx Zoo in New York offers a chance to get back at cheaters or ghosters for just $15.
Every 14 February, the zoo names its ugly exhibit — the Madagascar hissing cockroaches — after hated lovers to ease the jilted’s emotional trauma. Customers get a digital certificate showing their chosen name was attached to a roach, New York Post (NYP) reports.
Online gambling site BetUS has its own gimmick. For $15, it names a New York City rat after a toxic ex and drafts it into a fictional All-Star rodent basketball league, according to NYP.
While animal shelter Homeward Bound in Blackwood, New Jersey names feral cats after former flames and then spays or neuters the felines for $15 to $50.
In Texas, the Gulf Coast Humane Society puts the names of donors’ exes on a piece of paper and places it in a litter box for $10. The donor gets a photo of the cat pooping on the paper.
All these offerings for Valentine’s Day allow the zoo and the other groups to raise funds for wildlife conservation and control of the feral cat population.
Meanwhile, a Florida man has a tasty way for controlling invasive species. TikTok content creator Gray Davis shared videos of his bizarre taco recipe made from an exotic meat.
In winter, iguanas in South Florida get frozen in the trees and this helps them to conserve energy. In the process, however, some fall to the ground. Davis took home one stiff reptile and humanely killed it, which is legal in the state, so the animal won’t go to waste, as he said, NYP says.
Davis’s viral video which garnered 3.5 million views didn’t show how he cut up the reptile. It only showed its cleaned meat, plus 20 iguana eggs, and how he cooked it. He simmered the meat in a pot with onions, garlic, a bay leaf, and some salt, then fried it until crispy, according to NYP.
The eggs were boiled and blended with avocado, garlic cloves, olive oil, salt and lime juice to make a sauce, NYP reports.
Davis’ viral video showed him eating, and relishing, the iguana taco — to the shock of some viewers.
