Japanese Ambassador Endo Kazuya hosted a reception on 9 February 2026 to honor former Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista following his conferment of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star under the 2025 Autumn Conferment of Decorations on Foreign Nationals.
The reception, held at the ambassador’s residence, recognized Bautista’s role in strengthening Japan-Philippines cooperation in the transportation sector during his tenure as transportation secretary from 2022 to 2025, particularly in aviation and railways.
Bautista’s initiatives included efforts that contributed to the privatization of the operations and management of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, a move expected to support further development of the country’s aviation sector.
The medal and certificate were formally presented to Bautista in recognition of his contributions.
During the event, Ambassador Endo delivered congratulatory remarks highlighting Bautista’s role in deepening bilateral ties between Japan and the Philippines. Bautista followed with his acceptance speech. Angelito Alvarez, general manager of the New NAIA Infrastructure Corp., also delivered a congratulatory message and led the ceremonial toast.
Around 50 guests from various sectors attended the reception, including Bautista’s family, Philippine government officials such as Arsenio Balisacan, secretary of the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development, and Juan Edgardo Angara, secretary of the Department of Education, as well as business leaders and representatives of Japanese companies.
The Embassy of Japan in the Philippines reiterated its respect and gratitude for Bautista’s contributions to advancing Japan-Philippines relations.
