Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon directed officials of the department in Brgy. Tubod, Iligan, Lanao del Norte, to take the necessary steps to ensure that infrastructure in the area is in good condition.
This came after Dizon personally flew to the area to inspect public infrastructure following Typhoon Basyang.
Dizon inspected Tubod Bridge and the surrounding residential area, which were affected by the recent typhoon.
The inspection was conducted in line with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to ensure the integrity of bridges in the province, as well as the proper functioning of flood control projects.
This aims to mitigate flooding and repair any damaged infrastructure facilities in the area.
Dizon directed DPWH personnel in the area to immediately dredge the Iligan River, which is heavily silted.
He said it is important to dredge the river so rainwater will not overflow in the event of another low-pressure area.
Aside from the dredging works, Dizon also ordered continuous clearing operations of roads and bridges in the area.
He emphasized that the DPWH should assist the local government unit in restoring the integrity of bridges and, if needed, use the funds allocated for this purpose.
Dizon disclosed that funds are available for this initiative and stressed that desilting the river should be prioritized.
