Perpetual, Letran risk perfect records

Letran College and University of Perpetual Help System Dalta put their unbeaten records on the line when they clash in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 101 women’s volleyball tournament on Tuesday at the San Andres Gym in Manila.

Game time is set at 2 p.m., with the Lady Altas still unbeaten in five games while the Lady Knights riding the crest of a four-game winning streak in the country’s oldest collegiate league.

Perpetual is coming off an impressive 26-28, 14-25, 24-26 victory over listless Emilio Aguinaldo College last Saturday while Letran is fresh from a 17-25, 25-13, 25-13, 25-13 victory over the erstwhile unbeaten San Beda College, making their duel truly exciting,

But Letran veteran Judiel Nitura stressed that maintaining their perfect record hardly matters as they are focused on their growth and building chemistry.

“We’re not thinking about team standings or records. What we’re focused on is improving more as a unit,” said Nitura, whose squad has dropped only one set this season.

On the other hand, Perpetual star Cy Alemeniana said the duel will serve as a gauge on their preparation for the crucial stretch of the tournament.

“We’ll see if we’re really that good as a team, or if there’s still more we need to improve on,” Alemeniana said.
