Brunei’s royal family welcomed a new generation as Prince Abdul Mateen and Princess Anisha Rosnah celebrated the birth of their first child, a daughter, on 8 February 2026.
The announcement, released through state broadcaster Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB), confirmed that the baby was born at 8:50 a.m. on 20 Syaaban 1447 in the Islamic calendar.
Seventeen cannon shots were fired at Istana Nurul Iman to mark the occasion, following royal protocol for major state celebrations.
The birth represents the first major royal milestone since the couple’s widely watched wedding in January 2024, a 10-day celebration that drew international attention and underscored Prince Mateen’s global profile.
Observers view the arrival of their daughter as a continuation of the monarchy’s lineage and public presence during the long reign of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, one of the world’s longest-serving monarchs.
Prince Mateen, among the Sultan’s most prominent sons, serves in the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and has represented the country in international polo competitions.
Princess Anisha Rosnah comes from a distinguished Bruneian family and is the granddaughter of Pehin Dato Isa, a senior royal adviser.
