President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has formed an inter-agency organizing committee to oversee the country’s preparations and ensure a strong Philippine presence at the Green Expo 2027 in Yokohama, Japan.

Under Administrative Order 41, Marcos designated the Department of Agriculture as chairperson and the Department of Tourism as vice chairperson of the Philippine Organizing Committee (POC).

Also named as members are the heads of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Science and Technology, National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions.

Scenery for joy

The Green Expo 2027 is an international horticultural exposition recognized by the Bureau International des Expositions and the International Association of Horticultural Producers. It will run from March to September 2027 under the theme “Scenery of the Future for Happiness.”

The event will serve as a platform for participating countries to showcase biodiversity, sustainable farming practices, agri-fishery products, green technologies, eco-tourism initiatives, innovation in high-value crops, and cultural heritage.

Malacañang said the Philippines’ participation aligns with the administration’s goals under the Philippine Development Plan 2023–2028, particularly efforts to modernize and transform the agriculture and production sectors toward sustainability and competitiveness, while advancing science, technology, and innovation.

The order allows the chairperson, vice chairperson, and committee members to designate alternates with ranks not lower than assistant secretary to represent them in decision-making.

The POC may also create sub-committees and invite representatives from government agencies, local government units, the private sector, non-government organizations, and the academe to provide technical support.
