The Makabayan bloc is calling on the Philippine government and the public to reject any invitation to join United States President Donald Trump’s “Board of Peace” for Gaza, calling the initiative a tool for “imperialist interests.”
The political coalition characterized the board as a mechanism to legitimize a US occupation of Gaza and bypass the United Nations. In a statement, the group alleged the plan is designed to profit from the reconstruction of infrastructure destroyed by US-supplied weapons and Israeli military actions.
“Trump’s Board of Peace is a transparent scheme to profit from the destruction that US bombs and US-backed Israeli aggression have inflicted on Gaza,” the bloc stated.
Makabayan took particular aim at the board’s executive committee, which includes former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner. The group described the members as “profiteers and architects of imperialist wars” rather than peacemakers.
