Pasig City officials on Friday inaugurated a P11.5-million drainage and road rehabilitation project along A.V. Cruz Street in Barangay Kalawaan, part of an ongoing effort to mitigate chronic flooding in the area.
The project features a reinforced concrete box culvert drainage system, which officials said was chosen for its durability against heavy traffic loads. The system includes 0.5-meter-wide canals on both sides of the road, reaching a depth of 1.2 meters.
The infrastructure upgrade also involved the rehabilitation of a 390-linear-meter, six-meter-wide roadway and the construction of 340 linear meters of sidewalks.
Mayor Vico Sotto, who led the ceremony alongside Representative Roman Romulo and Vice Mayor Dodot Jaworski, said the project is expected to provide immediate relief to residents long affected by inundation.
However, Sotto cited that the width of the new sidewalks was constrained by adjacent private properties.
The mayor added that the city may eventually pursue formal procedures to acquire that land for public use to further improve pedestrian access.
During the event, Romulo stressed that while the drainage project is a significant step, the city requires continued infrastructure investment and cooperation from stakeholders to fully address its urban challenges.
