Abu Dhabi Open: Eala falls vs Russian foe in quarterfinal

Ivan Suing

Alex Eala’s pursuit of the Abu Dhabi Open women’s singles came to a screeching halt after a 3-6, 3-6 loss to world No. 11 Ekaterina Alexandrova of Russia in the quarterfinal on Thursday at the Zayed Sports City International Tennis Centre.

Eala, 20, fought hard for 90 minutes but lost steam as she wasn’t able to pull off another victory in this Women’s Tennis Association 500 tournament.

The Rafael Nadal Academy graduate still has a chance to extend her stay in the competition as she and Janice Tjen of Indonesia will face Zhang Shuai of China and Cristina Bucsa of Spain in the women’s doubles.
