The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Sunday issued a public warning against the rise of cryptocurrency and online investment scams, urging citizens to verify financial platforms before committing funds.
Data from the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group revealed that 311 investment scam cases were reported in 2025.
At least 12 of those cases specifically involved complex cryptocurrency schemes.
PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said these scams typically use the lure of “high returns” to entice victims.
Scammers often allow initial withdrawals to build trust and encourage victims to recruit others, only to block account access once significant capital has been invested.
“Every Filipino has the right to have their hard-earned money protected,” Nartatez said.
“We encourage everyone to be discerning and not to simply trust online platforms offering excessively high profits. If there is suspicious activity, report it immediately to the nearest police station,” he added.
Nartatez stressed that beyond financial loss, these scams compromise personal security. He advised the public to avoid sharing banking credentials online and to educate family members about common digital fraud.
The PNP said it is intensifying its awareness campaign under the “Bagong PNP” initiative to help citizens navigate online financial opportunities safely.
Authorities remind the public that legitimate investments rarely offer “guaranteed” high returns with little to no risk.
