Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon has relieved several officials from the 2nd District Engineering Office of Pampanga during his visit to the flood control project at Barangay Candating in the town of Arayat, Pampanga on 30 January.
According to Dizon, he has already relieved Ranilo Magtoto, Chief of the Maintenance Section; Arnold Domingo; and Jefferson Guinto of the Construction Section of the 2nd DEO, following reports that they were allegedly asking for commissions from projects.
The DPWH Pampanga 2nd District Engineering Office is responsible for planning, designing, and maintaining national infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and flood control systems within its jurisdiction.
Dizon also inspected the controversial flood control project at the said barangay wherein it collapsed anew this month, affecting 23 houses during the incident. The official is looking into declaring a danger zone and possible implementation of a forced evacuation for the safety of the residents in the area.
The official is also ensuring that the implementation of the project is in order to avoid untoward incidents that may further occur.
Meanwhile, the local government is also monitoring the area and has provided immediate support to the families affected by the collapse.
