BANGKOK, Thailand — The Philippine Paralympic Committee (PPC) aims to strengthen its grassroots program and talent identification following the country’s best medal haul in the 13th ASEAN Para Games in Nakhon Ratchasima.

PPC president Michael Barredo said Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Patrick “Pato” Gregorio mentioned adding para sports in the Batang Pinoy in Bacolod this year.

The Filipinos collected 44 golds, 37 silvers and 52 bronze medals in this tournament for differently-abled athletes.

“I hope we will be included for this year’s Batang Pinoy and extend our reach to the entire country. Chairman Gregorio mentioned this during the send-off and I hope it goes well,” Barredo said.

“It is so that those who won’t be able to participate in the Palarong Pambansa can join the Batang Pinoy.”

Boccia, athletics, swimming and goalball are currently in the roster of sports for the Palaro while Batang Pinoy has yet to add events that are aligned with those featured in the Para Games.
