Robin Padilla opens up about mother’s dementia

For actor and Senator Robin Padilla, strength now comes from the smallest, most fragile moments—his mother’s smile, a calm day, a sense that she is not alone.

In a deeply personal Facebook post, the actor-turned-lawmaker opened up about caring for his mother, Eva Cariño, who is living with dementia. Padilla admitted that the condition can be emotionally draining, especially as it alters memory in painful ways. What steadies him, he said, is knowing she is surrounded by family and care.

“Wala nang hihigit pang ligaya para sa akin kundi ang makita ang aking ina na masaya,” Padilla wrote. “Ang malaman na siya’y inaalagaan ng pamilya, minamahal, at hindi nag-iisa.”

The post, accompanied by a tender video of his mother, revealed a quieter side of the public figure—one shaped less by politics and celebrity, and more by the universal role of being a son. Padilla has previously shared that dementia can be cruel in what it leaves behind, often holding on to hurt while letting go of happier memories. Still, he chooses to focus on presence over fear.
