LTO issues show cause order vs vlogger over alleged road rage incident

Ralph Harvey Rirao

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Monday said it has issued a show cause order against a vlogger allegedly involved in a road rage incident in which he blocked another motorist from overtaking.

In a video circulating on social media, the vlogger was seen driving a sports utility vehicle. The individual who took the clip said the vlogger “hates being overtaken.” The footage shows him repeatedly attempting to get close to another vehicle, where a passenger was recording the incident.

As the vehicles approached a stoplight, the vlogger exited his SUV and confronted the other motorist, forcefully knocking on the window and allegedly uttering uncalled-for words at the driver and passenger.

“Dahil dito, agad na nagpa-isyu si LTO Chief Markus V. Lacanilao ng show cause order (SCO) para sa nasabing vlogger,” the LTO said.

After the video went viral, the vlogger posted an explanation on his social media account, claiming the incident occurred in Heritage, Baclaran. He alleged that the other driver suddenly changed lanes and nearly caused a fatal accident.

“Sa Heritage, Baclaran, magkasunod na kami. Bigla siyang lumiko. Noong papasok na ako, biglang bumalik ulit—papatayin ako,” the vlogger said.

Under the show cause order, the vlogger and the registered owner of the vehicle were ordered to appear before the LTO’s Intelligence and Investigation Division on 29 January at 1 p.m. and submit a verified comment explaining why administrative charges should not be filed against them.

The LTO said possible charges include reckless driving and being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle. The agency has also suspended the vlogger’s driver’s license and placed the vehicle involved under alarm status.

Lacanilao said arrogance and lack of discipline have no place on the road, stressing that the vlogger’s behavior violated traffic laws and endangered public safety.
