Laudit, Magtubo conquer UP runfest

Roy Laudit and Edna Magtubo showed great grit as they ruled The Great UP Run on Sunday at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman Grounds.

Laudit delivered a statement performance in the men's 10K, setting the pace at 31:37 way ahead of runner-ups Joel Orogan (33:02) and Ritchie Estampador (33:08).

Magtubo, on the other hand, was on a league of her own, winning the women's 10K in 39:09, besting Maricar Camacho (40:01) and Decerie Encomio (40:57).

About 9,000 runners participated in the run which was for the benefit of the University's varsity sports programs as RUNRIO donated P1 million to the UP Office for Athletics and Sports Development.

"We're humbled to see this strong turnout and are delighted to continue our support sa ating mga atleta ng bayan," said RUNRIO president Rio de la Cruz, himself an instructor in the University, of the race which was in partnership with the UP OASD and the Office of the Vice President for Community Affairs, and was organized by RUNRIO and Trilogy Run Asia.

In the men's 5K, Alfrence Braza topped the men’s field with 15:28, ahead of Mark Anthony Oximar (16:45) and Antonio Lim (17:28), while Mary Jane Pagayon won the women’s side with a winning time of 18:07, followed by Danica Castillo (23:06) and Liza Delfin (24:49).

Cavin Vidal also edged Reyniel Abel by a second, 10:22 to 10:23, in the men's 3K, with Jerrickson Manipol placing third (12:12); as Jessa Mae Roda took top honors in the women's race with 12:13, ahead of Shaira Mae Fantilaga (13:11) and Elaiza Salomon (14:26).
