Cagayan De Oro City — Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy has ordered the formation of a technical working group to finalize plans for a light rail transit system that would connect Cagayan de Oro to neighboring towns, a city official announced Monday.
Nonito Oclarit, manager of the City Road and Traffic Administration, said the proposed Metro CDO LRT project would serve as a major parallel component of the broader Mindanao Railway Transit. The light rail line is expected to span from Villanueva to Laguindingan in Misamis Oriental.
The move follows guidance from the Department of Transportation for the city to develop a formal proposal for the transit system. Oclarit said the mayor designated the city’s traffic administration as the lead agency for the project’s technical group.
“We are awaiting the issuance of the executive order creating the technical group,” Oclarit said in a radio interview.
The technical working group will be tasked with finalizing technical requirements and conducting an assessment of how the railway would impact the city’s current traffic situation.
