The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Saturday said it conducted a monitoring patrol and site visit within the Joint Task Force (JTF) Malampaya area of responsibility to assess security conditions at the Malampaya Natural Gas Power Project in the West Philippine Sea.
The activity was led by AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. on 23 January and focused on evaluating the security posture and operational readiness of units tasked with safeguarding the country’s key offshore energy infrastructure.
During the visit, AFP officials received briefings on existing security measures, maritime and air patrol operations, and coordination efforts among concerned agencies to ensure the uninterrupted operation of the Malampaya facility.
The Malampaya Natural Gas Power Project is a critical component of the Philippines’ energy supply, providing fuel for power generation that supports national economic activity.
The AFP maintains a continuous presence in the area as part of its mandate to protect strategic installations and maritime resources.
The monitoring patrol forms part of ongoing AFP operations aimed at strengthening security in strategic areas and ensuring the protection of vital infrastructure within the country’s maritime domain.
