Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon has ordered the immediate completion of the road rehabilitation of the MacArthur Highway at Barangay Sampaloc in the town of Apalit, as well as the Santiago–San Vicente Road.
During a site inspection in Pampanga on 23 January 2026, Dizon said, “We have to finish these before the rainy season.” This directive was aimed at the DPWH–Pampanga 1st District Engineering Office (DEO).
Pampanga Vice Governor Dennis Pineda, Apalit Mayor Jun Tetangco, Vice Mayor Peter Nucom, DPWH-3 Regional Director Arnold Ocampo, and DPWH–Pampanga 1st DEO Head Alfie Lejarde accompanied the Public Works Secretary during his inspection.
Also present were 4th District Board Member Dr. Kaye Naguit, Chief of Staff to the Vice Governor Angelina Blanco, Magalang Mayor Malu Lacson, Pampanga PPO PCOL Eugene Marcelo and the Sangguniang Bayan ng Apalit.
The said project has a target completion of within four months, making residents and motorists who ply the area elated for the said completion.
“Malaking perwisyo po talaga ang lubak na daan, lalo na kapag binabaha. Apektado pati kabuhayan namin. Pero ngayong sinimulan na ang paggawa, nagpapasalamat po kami dahil masosolusyunan na ang problema,” Angelica Catian of Barangay Sampaloc, Apalit said.
The Provincial Government, Apalit local government, and the DPWH will cooperate to ensure that infrastructure projects such as the MacArthur Highway road rehabilitation will be completed as soon as possible.
As of January 2026, the MacArthur Highway in Apalit, Pampanga, is experiencing heavy traffic due to ongoing road construction and rehabilitation near Jumbo Jenra.
DPWH has ordered immediate repairs for damaged sections, including the Apalit-Macabebe Road, to fix severe potholes. Traffic advisories are active for this key Luzon, Philippines, transportation route.
