The operator of the Beep card system announced Friday the removal of all Beep Stored Value Updaters (SVUs) and Express Renewal Devices (ERDs) from rail stations nationwide due to their reliance on outdated 3G technology.
In a public advisory, Beep said the machines are no longer operational as telecommunications providers have already phased out 3G services, prompting the need for a system upgrade.
To ensure uninterrupted service, Beep encouraged commuters to use the Beep mobile application, which allows users to check card balances and retrieve load transactions by tapping their Beep card on an NFC-enabled smartphone.
The company added that Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) and Point of Sale (POS) tellers in all rail stations remain fully operational and available for all Beep card transactions.
