Baguio City — As the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) logged Baguio’s coldest temperature at 10.6 degrees Celsius, even lower temperatures were recorded in parts of Benguet and Mountain Province early Thursday, 23 January 2026.

In Atok, PAGASA recorded a much colder 5 degrees Celsius as of 5 a.m. Frost was seen covering vegetables in Sitio Englandad, Barangay Paoay, where farmer and entrepreneur PJ Haight shared photos on social media showing ice particles blanketing his crops.

Haight also posted a video showing a car coated with a thin layer of ice. In one photo, a thermometer indicated a negative 3 degrees Celsius ground temperature. Ground temperature is typically colder than air temperature, which is what PAGASA measures.

Meanwhile, in Bauko, air temperature dropped to 4 degrees Celsius as of 5 a.m. The freezing conditions were felt in Barangay Sinto and nearby areas. The municipal government advised residents to brace for continued cooler weather in the coming days.
