A woman died while four others were injured when a tanker collided with a car along Roman Highway at Barangay Puting Buhangin in the town of Orion, Bataan, on 16 January 2026.

According to reports, a 48-year-old woman died when a car crashed into a trailer tanker carrying fuel.

The victim was identified as Audie Gamella Mendeja, a resident of Infanta, Pangasinan. She was on board a Honda Civic driven by Amado Ison Fulgencio, 37, of Mariveles, Bataan. The two were traveling with two other passengers.

Reports stated that both vehicles were traveling along Roman Highway, with the tanker heading toward Balanga City while the car was bound for Mariveles. Upon reaching the area of the incident, the Honda Civic allegedly encroached into the tanker’s lane, resulting in a collision.

Authorities said the impact caused sparks that ignited the tanker’s cargo of approximately 24,000 liters of diesel and 6,000 liters of gasoline, triggering a fire that engulfed the tanker and spilled fuel along portions of the highway.

The passengers of the Honda Civic were immediately rushed to Bataan General Hospital, where Mendeja was later declared dead. The remaining victims continue to receive medical treatment, while the tanker driver sustained only minor injuries.

Firefighters from the Orion and Limay fire stations responded to the scene and were able to extinguish the fire by around 6:15 p.m.

Police are currently investigating the incident.
