Fire razes Pasuquin public market

A structural fire hit the Pasuquin Public Market in Barangay 02 Poblacion, Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte on the morning of 15 January 2026, prompting an immediate response from local police and fire authorities.

The Pasuquin Police Station said the fire was reported at around 10:40 a.m., with flames already spreading when responders arrived at the scene. Personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Pasuquin conducted a size-up and initiated firefighting operations, while police officers assisted in crowd control and traffic management in the surrounding area.

According to BFP-Pasuquin, the second floor of the public market building was totally gutted by fire. The affected area had concrete flooring and walls, with wooden panels used as room partitions, G.I. sheet roofing, steel and wooden trusses, and a plywood ceiling.

Fire out was declared at around 12:15 p.m. by Fire Inspector Roy Bonoan of BFP-Pasuquin.

Authorities said the origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation. Initial damage was estimated at P24 million based on the BFP Operational Procedures Manual.
