Nearly 40K frozen potato snacks recalled over plastic contamination

Nearly 40,000 cases of frozen tater tots distributed across 26 states have been recalled due to potential plastic contamination.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Idaho-based McCain Foods USA Inc. has issued a voluntary recall of approximately 38,853 cases of frozen tater tot products, including Ore-Ida Tater Tots and Sysco Imperial Potato Tater Barrels, after discovering that the products may be contaminated with “clear, hard plastic fragments.”

The recalled frozen tater tots were distributed to the following 26 states: Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wisconsin.

About 21,000 cases of Ore-Ida Tater Tots have product details as follows:

While there have been no reported illnesses or injuries linked to the affected products, the FDA elevated the recall to Class II on Tuesday, warning that consumption may cause “temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.”
