An impeachment complaint against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. may be filed by several members of the House of Representatives, according to Caloocan City 2nd District Rep. Edgar Erice.
In a radio interview on DZRH, Erice said this development comes amid reports that Vice President Sara Duterte may face another impeachment complaint once the House resumes session.
“The House appears set for an eventful February because, based on what I have been hearing, discussions are not limited to the impeachment of Vice President Sara. There are also congressmen who are planning to file an impeachment complaint against President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. Thus, there are two developments that we should closely monitor," Egay said in Filipino.
Erice cited Supreme Court rulings stating that impeachment complaints are first evaluated by the House Committee on Justice to determine whether they meet the required form and substance before any case can move forward.
He added that he does not intend to support either impeachment complaint but will seek clarification by raising questions before the Justice Committee regarding the allegations.
Erice did not disclose the identities of the lawmakers reportedly preparing to file the complaints.
Meanwhile, the one-year bar rule for filing an impeachment complaint against Vice President Duterte is set to lapse on 6 February.
