A 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck Davao Occidental late Saturday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
The quake occurred at 10:58 p.m. at a depth of 10 kilometers, about 315 kilometers south-southeast of Balut Island in the municipality of Sarangani.
Instrumental intensities recorded included Intensity II in Malungon and Kiamba (Sarangani); Koronadal and Tupi (South Cotabato); and Palimbang (Sultan Kudarat). Areas reporting Intensity I included Magsaysay (Davao del Sur); Sta. Maria (Davao Occidental); Nabunturan (Davao de Oro); Maitum and Malapatan (Sarangani); Banga, Tampakan, T’Boli, Surallah, and Santo Niño (South Cotabato); and General Santos City.
Phivolcs said no damage was reported, aftershocks are not expected, and there is no tsunami threat.
