Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac will personally travel to Abu Dhabi to look into the death of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) on New Year’s Eve.

According to information provided to GMA News Online, Cacdac—who is still awaiting the official release of the forensic report—is set to arrive in Dubai on Friday morning, 9 January.

Mary Jill Muya, a 44-year-old OFW from Barangay Cubay, Jaro, Iloilo City, was found dead in her room in Abu Dhabi on 31 December.

Muya’s family said they were unaware of any work-related issues and expressed doubts about the possibility of foul play.

Muya had been working in Abu Dhabi for about two decades, but records from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) show she had not renewed her membership since 2022.

Philippine Ambassador to the UAE Alfonso Ver earlier said the Migrant Workers Office at the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi has yet to arrange the repatriation of Muya’s remains, as it is still awaiting the official death notification from the mortuary.

“Once the notification of death, death certificates, and other documentary requirements have been issued, we can process the repatriation of the remains,” Ver said.
