Navigating Metro Manila just got smarter. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and SM Supermalls officially launched the MMDA–SM Smart Mobility and Traffic Information Sharing Project at SM Megamall, marking a significant step toward making daily travel more informed, efficient, and commuter- friendly.
Anchored on a shared goal of making travel easier for commuters, the project links MMDA’s AI-powered Traffic Management System with SM Supermalls’ Mall Digital Directories — allowing mallgoers to check real-time road conditions instantly while still inside the mall.
To check traffic updates, mallgoers only need to follow these easy steps:
• Visit any of the three Mall Digital Directories located across SM Megamall Level 3, Mega B (near Chris Sports and Uniqlo), Level 3, Mega Fashion Hall (Near Sunnies Flask and Urban Revivo), Level 2, Mega B (near Jins and Uniqlo).
• Tap the MMDA Traffic Icon on the screen.
• Instantly view live traffic video feeds and updates for major roads near the mall.
With the tagline “PLAN AHEAD, TRAVEL SMART! Because every journey matters. Stay informed with real- time traffic updates at SM!” the initiative reinforces the role of malls not just as lifestyle destinations, but as practical hubs that help people make smarter decisions beyond shopping and dining.
Turning Mall Time into Smart Travel Time
With the new system in place, mallgoers can simply tap the Traffic Information icon on select Mall Digital Directories to instantly view live traffic conditions on major Metro Manila roads. This allows visitors to better plan their routes, avoid congestion, and time their departures — turning waiting time into informed time. The project reflects a seamless blend of public service and private sector innovation, transforming everyday mall touchpoints into tools that support smarter mobility and urban efficiency.
Strong Public–Private Collaboration
The launch was led by MMDA Chairman Atty. Romando “Don” Artes, joined by MMDA Public Information Director Mila Silvestre. Representing SM Supermalls were senior leaders, including Mr. Christian V. Mathay, Senior Assistant Vice President, Regional Operations Head, Mr. Egbert T. Lim, Group Head — Senior Assistant Vice President, Mr. Royston A. Cabunag — Department Head, Assistant Vice President, and Mr. Patrick Raymund G. Pacla, Division Head, Vice President Cyberzone & Sponsorship.
Both organizations emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing everyday urban challenges, with the project serving as a model for how technology and shared data can directly improve commuter experience.
Moving Forward, One Informed Trip at a Time
The MMDA — SM Smart Mobility and Traffic Information Sharing Project is part of SM Supermalls’ broader commitment to community-centered solutions — bringing convenience, connectivity, and real-world value closer to where people already are.
As the initiative rolls out to more SM malls — including SM North EDSA and SM Mall of Asia — it underscores a simple but powerful idea: better information leads to better movement, and when cities move better, everyone benefits.
