The national government will break ground on three new EDSA Busway stations in 2026 as part of a continued push to modernize the corridor and reduce commuter travel time, transportation officials said Tuesday.
The new stations will be located in Cubao, Magallanes and at the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX). The Department of Transportation (DoTr) awarded the bidding for the projects this month, with construction scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2026 and conclude by the end of that year.
Transportation Undersecretary for road infrastructure Mark Steven Pastor said the expansion is intended to streamline bus flow and improve the “time and motion” of public transport along the capital’s main thoroughfare.
“Construction will start in 2026,” Pastor said. “This was just awarded this December and will be finished within one year.”
In addition to the three new sites, the department is preparing to open the Kamuning Station between January and March. That facility is part of a broader busway modernization effort and features elevators and escalators designed for senior citizens, pregnant women and people with disabilities.
Pastor cited that the Kamuning project includes a new footbridge that will be separate from the existing MRT-3 infrastructure to ensure better accessibility.
The EDSA Busway, a dedicated median lane for buses, has become a primary transit option for thousands of daily commuters since its inception, significantly cutting travel times from northern to southern Metro Manila.
