DepEd: Social media posts regarding K-12 abolition 'fake news'

Neil Alcober

The Department of Education (DepEd) clarified that there is no truth to circulating social media posts claiming that the Senior High School (Grades 11 and 12) program will be abolished starting school year 2026–2027.

In an advisory, the department emphasized that such posts should be considered “fake news.”

According to DepEd, the K–12 program is mandated by law under Republic Act No. 10533, or the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013, and therefore cannot be removed without a corresponding amendment from Congress.

The agency once again reminded parents, students, and the general public to be cautious and discerning when consuming information online.

“I-report ang mga maling page at sa official DepEd Philippines account lamang kumuha ng ‘legit’ na balita para hindi ma-stress sa maling akala,” the department added.
