Following a viral road rage incident along EDSA southbound in South Triangle, Quezon City, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) reported on Thursday that a Show Cause Order (SCO) was released against the Hyundai Starex driver involved.
According to LTO, the Starex driver was seen ramming a Yamaha Sniper motorcycle from behind before fleeing the scene.
“Based on LTO records, the incident happened on 23 December 2025, at EDSA Southbound, New York Street, Barangay South Triangle, Quezon City,” the agency said in a statement.
In the viral Facebook video, the Hyundai Starex is shown with broken windows and dented doors while bystanders try to stop it from driving away. A truck can also be seen attempting to close an opening on the one-way road.
Despite the efforts, the driver counter-flowed and made a turn to escape. Before the video ended, concerned citizens reportedly captured the vehicle’s plate number.
LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao has directed the driver and the registered owner of the van to appear at the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division (LTO-IID) in East Avenue, Quezon City, for a scheduled hearing on 6 January 2026.
The respondents are also required to submit a verified sworn explanation regarding the incident to defend themselves against administrative charges of reckless driving and abandonment of the scene.
Through this explanation, they may also clarify why their driver’s license should not be suspended under the “Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle” classification.
Furthermore, the Hyundai Starex involved is now under Alarm status, preventing any transactions with the vehicle while the investigation is ongoing. The driver has been placed under preventive suspension for 90 days and must surrender their license to the agency.
