The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has suspended the implementation of the expanded number coding scheme on several key dates surrounding Christmas and New Year to accommodate the expected surge in vehicular traffic as people travel for holidays and celebrations.
Under existing policy, the number coding scheme is automatically lifted on official and special non-working holidays.
The MMDA said the expanded number coding scheme will be suspended on 23, 24, 25, 29, 30, and 31 December, as well as on 1 and 2 January 2026.
This means private vehicles will be exempt from number coding restrictions on these dates across Metro Manila, in line with the policy of easing traffic flow during holidays.
The number coding scheme, part of the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP), is normally enforced on specific weekdays.
While the scheme is suspended on the listed holidays, it remains in effect on regular weekdays that are not declared holidays. The MMDA reiterated that number coding is not implemented on Saturdays and Sundays.
